≡ The CALL FM Story

The CALL first signed on the air in Southeastern Florida at 8:05 PM on February 9, 2000.  The CALL was started by a group of college-age young adults in the summer of 1994 who formed a non-profit organization “Call Communications Group, Inc.”  Meeting at a surf store across from the University of Miami campus, the group felt God’s calling for this type of radio station although no opportunities appeared to be available.  All of the “experts” consulted said any new radio station in South Florida was almost an impossibility.  An FCC application was filed in late 1995, and the group prayed and pursued this vision for the next five years.  In 1999, the group was given the opportunity to purchase WMKL. The CALL signed on the air on February 9, 2000.

On April 22, 2005, WMKL’s signal was increased to 50,000 watts, reaching seven times as many listeners.  In 2007, The CALL launched several translator (repeater) signals in Southwest Florida between Naples and Bonita Springs.  On December 31, 2007, the Federal Communications Commission granted a construction permit for a new FM radio station to server Fort Myers, Florida.  On June 20, 2008, The CALL signed WMYE 91.9 on the air in Fort Myers, Florida.  In July 2008, The CALL helped launch WPSF 91.5 FM in Clewiston, Florida and provides programming for WPSF.  In early 2009, The CALL began operating 102.3 FM in Fort Myers Beach, 107.7 FM in Naples, and 90.5 FM in Immokalee.  On February 10, 2010, The CALL relocated WMKL to a new tower site in Miami-Dade County and currently reaches portions of five counties via 91.9 WMKL.

Expansion

The CALL has several applications for new radio stations still pending with the Federal Communications Commission.  However, as of mid-2010 there are no active expansion projects.
